Uller Spaces to Have Smallest Possible Inner Radii

چکیده
If fR n g 1 n=1 is a sequence of hyperbolic Riemann surfaces such that for any r > 0 a hyperbolic ball of radius r embeds isometrically into R n for all n suuciently large, then as n ! 1 the inner radii of the associated Teichm uller spaces i(T(R n)) ! 2. A straightforward consequence of this is that if a Riemann surface R contains arbitrarily large hyperbolic balls then i(T(R)) = 2. Let ? be a Fuchsian group acting on the upper half plane H , and hence also on the lower half plane H , in the complex plane. Let Q 1 (?) denote the complex Banach space of bounded quadratic diierentials with respect to ? deened in H. The Teichm uller space T(?) of ? is realized via the Bers embedding as a bounded region in Q 1 (?). The inner radius i(?) of T(?) is the supremum of radii of balls in Q 1 (?) centered at the origin which are contained in T(?). It has long been known 2] that if H carries the hyperbolic metric of curvature ?4 then (1:1) i(?) 2 whenever T(?) 6 = f0g: If ? is an elementary group then we have equality in (1.1), 4]. On the other hand it can be shown, following Gehring and Pommerenke 3], that the inequality in (1.1) is strict for coonite ? ((6], 11]). We now state our main theorem:

Radii of Regular Polytopes
There are three types of regular polytopes which exist in every dimension d: regular simplices, (hyper-) cubes, and regular cross-polytopes. In this paper we investigate two pairs of inner and outer j-radii (rj, Rj) and (r̄j, R̄j) of these polytopes (inner and outer radii classes are almost always considered in pairs, such that for a 0-symmetric body K and its dual K the inner (outer) radii of K ...
متن کاملSquare Joints in Railway Track Waves
When rails are laid in a railway track, small gaps are left between the ends of adjoining rails to allow for the expansion of the rails when the temperature rises. Rail joints are provided to form a continuous rail path which are normally laid in standard lengths bolted together by fishplates. When two rail joints are exactly opposing each other, they are called square (side by side) joints...

متن کاملA Note on Geodesics in Infinite-dimensional Teichm Uller Spaces
In this paper the following phenomena of geodesics in an innnite-dimensional Teichm uller space are founded: a geodesic (locally shortest arc) need not be a straight line (an isometric embedding of a segment of R into the Teichm uller space), no sphere is convex with respect to straight lines, and some geodesics can intersect themselves.
متن کاملFundamental Domains in Teichm Uller Space
We introduce a natural construction of fundamental domains for actions of subgroups of the mapping class group on Teichm uller space and investigate their properties. These domains are analogous to the classical Dirichlet polyhedra associated to the actions of discrete isometry groups on hyperbolic spaces.
